This is the fourth official Annual Report for the UNDP Pacific Centre. The Centre is the regional support arm of the three UNDP Country Offices in the Pacific, in Samoa, Fiji and Papua New Guinea. This support is provided in conjunction with the other regional centres for the Asia Pacific Region in Bangkok and Colombo. The Pacific Centre report also complements the Annual Reports produced by the three Pacific Country Offices, which when read together provide a comprehensive picture of UNDP’s engagement with Pacific Island Countries.

The UNDP Pacific Centre operated in the first half of 2007 with full staff in two practice areas – Millennium Development Goals and Poverty Alleviation and Democratic Governance. The Crisis Prevention and Recovery (CPR) team had two vacant posts, including that of the team leader. By the end of June, recruitment processes for the posts of Deputy Manager; CPR Team Leader; HIV Specialist (funded by BDP) and Knowledge Specialist (funded by the Australian government under its Australian Youth Volunteer programme) were near completion.

This is the first official Annual Report for the Pacific Centre previously known as the Pacific Sub Regional Centre. The Centre is the regional support arm of UNDP Country offices in the Pacific, providing this support in conjunction with the other two regional centres in the Asia Pacific Region based in Bangkok and Colombo. The Pacific Centre has a strong commitment to efficient and effective delivery with a focus on results that will impact on economic and social development in the region.
